General Questions

How do reservations work?

Reservations for any of our boats can be made ahead of time either over the phone or in-person (see the contact section for details). We recommend that you call at least three days in advance to ensure a reservation, with more notice if you're planning on coming on a weekend or holiday. We will need a credit card number in order to confirm the reservation; however, the rental fee will not actually be charged until you come down on the day of your reservation.

Note: we do not take reservations for waverunners unless you come down in-person on the day you would like to go out.

Note: please see the restrictions section before calling to make a reservation.

What is your cancellation policy for reservations?

We have a seventy-two hour non-cancellation policy. If you would like to cancel within seventy-two hours of your reservation, the best we can do is provide you with a rain check to move your reservation back to a later date. If we are not sending boats out for weather or other safety-related reasons, a full refund is possible.

How does the deposit work with boats and waverunners?

There is a $50 damage deposit for each waverunner you rent out, while the deposit for boats is $200. Deposits can be done with cash or credit card; we take Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. If you choose to put the deposit on a credit card, it will be run as an authorization and will never actually be charged unless you were to damage the machine. The bank will hold that amount for 3-5 business days after which the authorization will drop off and those funds will be available to you.

Note: the deposit is not actually charged to your card, but it will be unavailable for 3-5 business days afterwards.

Note: the deposit is waived if you take out a boat with one of our captains.

What if I don't have my driver's license with me?

Everyone who's planning on driving must bring their driver's license with them when they come down. If you do not have a driver's license, we also accept tickets along with a state-issued ID. If your driver's license is not American, then it must be qualified as an International license. Make sure all of the drivers have their licenses with them before coming down, and we will hold onto them while you're out on the water.

Are there any hidden fees associated with your rentals?

Besides tax, there are absolutely no extra fees. Gas, instructions, and life jackets are all included in the price! For our speed boats and deck boats, two-person tubes are available on the weekdays upon request for an additional $45.

Are there any restrictions that I should be aware of before renting out a boat or waverunner?

For safety reasons, we do not allow any pregnant women, children under the age of three, or pets to go out on any of our rentals. We also ask that you do not dock up to anything on the lake, and your entire party has to board at the LeatherLips docks.

We expect all of our customers to follow proper safety precautions and boating regulations while out on the Lake, including obeying the speed limit and slow/no-wake zones.

Waverunner rentals are restricted to stay within Geneva Bay (a very large portion of the lake).

Note: Also see our restrictions on renting out multiple machines to the same party.

I have a larger party and was wondering if there are any restrictions on renting out multiple boats and/or waverunners?

We can rent out up to three waverunners to the same party at the same time, but we generally only allow one boat per party to be out on the lake at any given time unless that boat has one of our captains onboard. We cannot rent out a boat and one or more waverunners to the same party at the same time unless that boat has a captain onboard.

Note: These rules are in place for your own safety, and you will not be able to rent out machines from multiple rentals to get around them.

Questions relating to boats

What is required to rent a boat?

You need to be twenty-five or older with a valid driver's license to rent out and drive all of our boats. There is also a $200 damage deposit for the boats. We require that all of the drivers have some boating experience; the amount of experience required depends on several factors such as the weather and type of boat, but in general, we want to make sure that you have enough experience to feel comfortable driving the boat. We'll go through about five minutes of safety/operating instructions to familiarize you with the boat before sending you out.

If no one in your party has boating experience, please see here.

Note: Pregnant women, children under the age of three, and pets are not allowed on the boats or waverunners for safety reasons.

Note: Our Bayliner Speedboats seat up to seven people and our Deck Boats seat up to twelve people.

What if I have little or no boating experience? Do you have experienced drivers who could drive us around the lake?

Note that no boating experience is necessary to drive the waverunners. For our speed boats and deck boats, we may be able to send an experienced captain along with you. The captain would drive your party around, and if possible, he/she could also show members of your party how to drive the boat in a safe and controlled manner. Your party can still have a great time enjoying the lake, the captain would be there to make sure that your experience is a safe one, and by gaining boating experience, you may not even need a captain in the future. We recommend that you contact us ahead of time to check on the availability of our captains.

Note: the $200 deposit is waived if you take out a boat with one of our captains.

Can you ski or tube off of your boats?

On the weekdays, we rent out two-person tubes for a one time fee of 45$. We do not rent out skis or gear for other watersports, but you are welcome to bring your own. Tubing is limited to our speed and deck boats.

Note: it is generally too busy to tube/ski on the weekends and holidays. If you're interested in reserving a tube along with your boat, we recommend talking to the reservationist first to ensure that it will be safe enough on the day you plan to go out.

How large is Geneva Lake, and how long does it take to get around the entire Lake?

Geneva Lake is 7.6 miles long and measures about 21 miles around the perimeter. By Speedboat, it takes at least two hours to comfortably travel around the entire lake.

Note: Waverunners are restricted to stay within Geneva Bay, which comprises a large portion of the Lake.

Questions relating to waverunners

What is required to rent a waverunner?

You need to be eighteen or older with a valid driver's license to rent out and drive the waverunners. There is also a $50 deposit per machine. Each waverunner can hold up to two adults or one adult and up to two children. No boating experience is required to drive the waverunners, since we'll go thorough safety/operating instructions before sending you out. The ability to swim is not necessary in order to enjoy a waverunner.

Note: Our waverunners will seat up to two adults or one adult and two small children. They will technically seat three adults but are less stable/safe with that much weight onboard.

How will we be able to tell when our time is up?

There are watches located on all of our waverunners. For boat rentals, we optionally provide a Nextel radio phone that displays the current time.

Is there anywhere to store our belongings while we're out on the water?

You can rent a locker for one dollar (lockers coins are available upon request). There are also small storage compartments on the waverunners but they are not waterproof, and the contents are likely to move around inside while you are driving.
